Pulse is a private journal. It is built to work on your device, without an account.
01What we collect
Nothing about you reaches us. Pulse has no account, no servers of its own, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. We never receive, see, sell or share your entries, photos, voice notes or anything else you add.
02What stays on your phone
Everything you write and add — entries, moods, categories, places, photos, voice notes, favourites, your name and profile photo, and your settings — is stored only on your device. It is deleted when you use Settings › Delete all entries or remove the app. Backups are files you export yourself; where you keep them is up to you.
03The few things that use the internet
Pulse only goes online for these, at your request, and sends nothing you've written:
- Searching for a place — what you type in the place search, and your rough location if you have allowed location, are sent to Photon (photon.komoot.io), an OpenStreetMap search service, to suggest matching places nearby.
- Maps — when an entry has a place, its small map is drawn from OpenStreetMap's map tiles (tile.openstreetmap.org), which tells that service the area being shown.
- Naming where you are — when you add your current location, your phone's own location service turns the coordinates into a place name. On most Android phones this is provided by Google Play services.
These services receive the request from your phone's internet address, like any website you visit, under their own privacy policies (OpenStreetMap Foundation: https://osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy · komoot: https://www.komoot.com/privacy). Pulse sends them no name, account or identifier.
04Permissions
- Location — only when you choose to add the place you're at, or to rank place search results near you.
- Microphone — only while you're recording a voice note.
- Notifications — for the daily reminder and On this day, if you turn them on. They are scheduled on your phone.
- Photos — chosen with Android's photo picker, so Pulse only sees the photos you pick.
- Run at startup and vibration — so reminders still go off after your phone restarts.
05Widgets
Home-screen widgets show your streak, today's prompt and moods, and can show a memory. Entry text is hidden on widgets unless you turn on Settings › Widgets › Show entry text.
06Children
Pulse is not directed at children under 13 and collects no information from anyone.
07Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new date.
